Curious about wearing invisible aligners? Invisalign FAQs answered by Dee Kay Dental
When you are an adult with misaligned teeth, it can feel like the only way to straighten your smile is with the use of a metal or orthodontic brace. And let’s be honest, these braces as an adult are not the look many people want!
As technologies have progressed and more options become available, it is now possible to get your teeth straightened using clear and invisible braces and aligners. As the names suggest, these options are visually discreet and can help to realign most orthodontic issues, ranging from a slight misalignment to over or underbites.
When you come to Dee Kay Dental, we can help you to get the smile you want without the need for heavy, orthodontic braces. We are proud to be able to offer our suitable patients Invisalign in Gainsborough, which allows you to get the straighter smile you have always desired with the discretion you have always hankered after too! What more could you want?
So, what are some of the most common questions our team at Dee Kay Dental is asked about Invisalign in Gainsborough? Read on to find out!
Is the process uncomfortable?
Unfortunately, even Invisalign in Gainsborough isn’t completely pain-free!
Your teeth will be gently nudged into the desired position by this aligner, but this may feel slightly sore.
If you need to control the sensation, over-the-counter pain relief should suffice. If it doesn’t and you are worried about the level of discomfort you are in, come and see our team right away.
How do I take care of the aligner?
Invisible aligners are extremely easy to take care of; clean them daily with cold water and a soft-bristled brush (to remove debris) and carry them in the carry case they come with to keep them damage-free.
Refrain from cleaning them with hot water (as this causes them to warp) and don’t use mouthwashes to clean them as this can cause staining.
I heard I have to change them – is that true?
Yes; with this brand of invisible braces, you will be required to wear each aligner for around 14 days. If you are unsure if it is time to change the aligner, you can contact our team for guidance.
So, when an aligner feels loose, it is time to switch to the next one in the sequence. If you wear an aligner for too long, you risk delaying the entire process.
How long does the process take?
This will vary based on the complexity of the issue being corrected.
On average, our patients have worn invisible aligners for between 3-6 months, but if you fail to wear your aligner for the prescribed time per day (22 hours), then the process is likely to be extended.
Will I need a retainer afterwards?
Yes; just like regular braces, after you have completed the process with invisible aligners, there will be a period of wearing a retainer.
Teeth are prone to moving and failure to wear a retainer can result in your teeth relapsing into their former positions.
