FAQs about Invisalign answered
Most people nowadays have heard of invisible aligners.
Indeed, they have somewhat taken the orthodontic world by storm, and now, as many as 95% of all adult patients who have a misalignment can have it corrected using an invisible aligner as opposed to a brace.
But there is a lot to know about these aligners before you decide on them. Many people assume that they are not as powerful as a fitted brace or that they are not going to be efficient in their case. This is where our team’s expertise with aligners can help you to decide whether or not they are right for you.
At Dee Kay Dental, we have a lot of experience using invisible aligners, especially Invisalign Sheffield, and we know all there is to know about getting the most out of this type of aligner. We are always happy to answer our patients’ questions about this aligner and can offer you guidance to ensure you get the most out of the realignment treatment.
But what are some of the most commonly asked queries about Invisalign Sheffield? Here, we answer 5 of the most frequently asked ones that we get from our patients.
How do the aligners work?
When you place Invisalign Sheffield into your mouth, its unique shape and material allow it to push your teeth gently into the required position.
When you come to see our team for the initial consultation, and we deem you to be a suitable candidate, we will perform an intraoral scan of your teeth. This image will then be used as the basis of the realignment process, and the subsequent aligners will be created using computer technology, with each aligner having a slightly different shape.
How long will it take?
The process of straightening your teeth using invisible aligners will take anywhere between 3 to 6 months, depending on the severity of the misalignment being treated and whether or not you stick to the prescribed wearing time. Depending on your clinical case, this may be 22 hours per day or more, so talk to our team for a more accurate guide of how long your realignment treatment will take.
Am I suitable even though I have an overbite?
You may be suitable to use an invisible aligner even if you have an overbite, but this will depend on its severity. If your overbite is extreme and involves several molar teeth being out of alignment or requiring straightening, then it is unlikely that this will be resolvable with invisible aligners and will likely require a fitted brace.
What should I do if one of the aligners breaks?
It is unlikely, but it can happen, and if you find that one of your aligners is broken or warped, you will need to contact our team at Dee Kay Dental as soon as possible to have it replaced. In fact, we advise all of our patients to hold on to all of the aligners in the sequence, even after they are used, in case such an event occurs. So, pop the previous aligner back in and contact us to have a replacement created.
Is it expensive?
It’s unlikely to be as expensive as you think it is, and compared to metal braces, aligners are strikingly affordable. So, call our team today for an assessment and to discuss potential financing options.
