Myths about Invisalign Sheffield debunked!
You have probably heard some bits about the growing trend for invisible aligners in adult orthodontic care. And if you have a dental misalignment as an adult, it is likely that you have been online and have come across some ‘facts’ that are actually myths.
And that can cause a wealth of confusion!
When you come to Dee Kay Dental, our team knows all there is to know about Invisalign Sheffield and will be more than happy to advise you on your suitability for this aligner.
Here, our team highlights some of the most common things that you may have heard about Invisalign Sheffield and debunks them, allowing you to learn a bit more about this aligner. Great!
It takes longer than braces
Invisalign Sheffield can offer patients a straighter smile in a much shorter time than would occur with traditional metal braces.
Depending on the severity of the misalignment, you may be able to straighten your teeth in as little as 3-6 months, allowing you to potentially begin this treatment with a deadline for an important upcoming event in mind, such as a wedding.
It isn’t uncomfortable
This is a common myth that has caused more than a couple of patients to cease treatment with invisible aligners, which is a shame.
Yes, it is true that without the projecting metal brackets pressing against the inner cheeks, invisible aligners are often more comfortable than fitted braces. But, they still need to move your teeth, which is going to take a bit of force to do!
By being fitted to your teeth accurately, the aligners gently push on them, moving them more gradually than they would if they were fitted braces. And this can cause pressure, which can cause discomfort.
To mitigate this, we would advise that you take over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen.
It is more expensive than braces
It’s trendy, it’s invisible…it must be more expensive, right?
Actually, no.
Invisible aligners are often more affordable than traditional braces because they require no alterations to be made by our team, do not require cleaning from a hygienist to keep your teeth and gums healthy, and, of course, they rarely take as long to straighten your teeth as traditional braces.
So, all in all, they are often more affordable.
It doesn’t work
When applied to teeth that have a mild to moderate case of dental misalignment, clear aligners can work well, producing long-lasting results.
So, if our dental team is confident that your smile can be successfully straightened using invisible aligners, then the aligner will work!
It can be used on severe cases of misalignment
The technology that surrounds invisible aligners is becoming more advanced all the time, so it can be used to correct more severe cases of misalignment.
But there are some instances when it is unsuitable to use; if you have teeth that require rotating, misaligned molars or a complex case of an over or underbite, then you may be more suited to having a fitted metal brace than a clear aligner.
